Our launch partners for custom domains
Today, we partnered with a select group of publications on our beta launch for custom domains. New America, Midcentury Modern, Substance, and The Nib each offer a different lens into how publications foster ideas and conversations on Medium, so we wanted to tell you a little bit more about each of them.
New America is a powerful convening space for new voices and big ideas working to solve the public problems of today and tomorrow. The publication brings together scholars, journalists, and thoughtful people in sharing stories that inspire civic connectedness and engagement. President & CEO Anne-Marie Slaughter wrote: “We are on Medium because its format, mission, and success resonate with our goal of being a networked civic enterprise with conversations in cities and across the country.”
Midcentury Modern is, in the words of editor and entrepreneur Debbie Galant, “the story of the baby boomers half a century later…of the things that shaped us, the things we shaped, and what it’s like for the generation that thought it invented youth to grow old.” Writers for the publication—mostly already on Medium—tell stories of shared human experiences that cut across generations in delightful and surprising ways. Here’s how anyone can pitch their own story to the publication.
Substance is a pioneering experiment in college journalism led by the indefatigable Toni Albertson and her students at Mt. San Antonio College, located about 20 miles from Downtown Los Angeles and one of the largest community colleges in the state of California. As the first student newspaper to cease print operations and migrate entirely over to Medium, Substance has amplified the voices of dozens of students sharing their personal stories and heartfelt perspectives.
The Nib is a nexus of ideas and innovation in the world of comics, and one of Medium’s beloved in-house publications. Every day, The Nib tests new frontiers in the combination of words and pictures through gag comics, political cartooning, comics journalism, and so on—all while pushing out the boundaries of the Medium platform itself.
