I sit at my desk to start to write, and outside of my window the world has turned to gray. On the downside, it looks like all the color has successfully been drained from the world by some malevolent force. On the upside, talk about a great atmosphere to start writing a story from the viewpoint of a moody, introspective protagonist!

Would I rather the flowers be blooming outside and the birds come out of their Northern Hemisphere winter hibernation? Hell yeah! But we take what we can get for inspiration right?

I challenge you, with these prompts today, to take some inspiration from your own life. Look out the window, look at old photographs, look inside your own memories and take a trip to past years and experiences.

Or if you need inspiration for a new character, look to the next person you see/hear. Is it an Amazon delivery driver? Maybe your next-door neighbor is speedwalking by on the sidewalk? Is that a telemarketer ringing your phone as we speak?

How would these prompts look from these unique characters’ perspectives or within their day-to-day lives?
