Welcome to Week Eight of the 2022 Writing Prompt Journey! Almost two months in our belts, and we’re still going strong. Give yourselves a big pat on the back, you deserve it!

As always, we have three new prompt words awaiting you, and two challenge words/concepts for each that you can try to include in your poems (if you crave a challenge).

You don’t have to use the exact prompt word in your poem, but rather you can just let it inspire you in the topic or emotion of your poem. You can use just one prompt, use all three together, or if the photos inspire you more than the words, feel free to dive into those for inspiration as well.

Your poems may be in any form and use any poetic device, but here are a few different ideas of poetic devices you may wish to use in your poems to get you started:

  • alliteration: one of my favorite devices, alliteration is the use of similar consonant sounds within lines of poetry, sometimes creating a tongue twister feel. As an example:

shrill strife shatters through
tenuous tranquility

  • onomatopoeia: a word that is an imitation of the sound it is…
