From a Hospitality Company that Believes in Bringing People Together to Create Lasting Happy Memories

As the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students in Parkland, Fla. return to school this week, I’d like to send them more than thoughts and prayers. I want them to know that they have my unwavering support in their courageous fight for gun reform since the tragic shooting that took 17 classmates and faculty members from them two weeks ago.

As the Parkland kids bravely leaned on companies — many of them in the travel industry that I am a proud part of — to cut ties with the NRA, I quietly applauded their efforts while on vacation with my family. That’s when I decided to make my voice heard.

I am a father and entrepreneur who co-founded Suiteness, a travel site that celebrates togetherness by allowing people to book connecting suites, with two other doting dads. We are an Oakland, Calif.-based company that launched and grew in Las Vegas, another American city recently ravaged by gun violence. We supported victims there by working with one of our partner hotels, to house the support group, To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA). I was sickened when the Las Vegas shooting disappeared from the headlines as our lawmakers did nothing to address the ongoing issue of gun violence in America.

My Kindergarten-aged daughter participated in yet another active shooter drill recently, and I’d like to believe the Parkland students when they say that they will be read about in text books as America’s last school shooting. It’s time for substantial gun reform and action from our government to make the madness stop.
