A few new items have been added to the student store!

Before the pandemic hit Sunset, the store had purchased an espresso machine in hopes of gathering a bit more money by appealing to teachers and students who felt exhausted from long nights and needed a bit of a boost to start the day. After COVID, the student store hadn’t been selling as many items as before, but now they’re rolling these items back, starting with… Coffee! You can buy coffee in the morning or any time the student store is open. It’s 2$ for an Americano, 2$ for a latte, and 2.50$ for a flavored latte.

The Student Store is run by DECA, the business class, and all proceeds go to that class to help pay for field trips and activities, so when you shop there, you’re supporting your friends and fellow Apollos. Keonna Joseph, Clara Bay, and I enjoyed sipping on lattes (which the student store so graciously gave us to taste test) while working on various news articles.

Ms. McDonnel, the teacher of our business class, buys Starbucks coffee beans at Costco for the machine. Both the staff of the Student Store and Ms. McDonnel report that people have been taking advantage of the convenience of where the coffee is located. I think that as the knowledge of the “coffee spot” spreads, the business class will garner more and more customers since so many students are so exhausted in the mornings.

So the next time you need a coffee, instead of stopping at a Starbucks or a McDonald’s, stop at the Student Store on your way to classes in the morning.
