Upcoming Art Benefit Concert
By Kaitlyn Randolph and Cam Solis Mejias
Sunset’s resident Student Ambassadors for Blanchet House — Kaylee Nguyen, Lynn Kim, and Kaitlyn Randolph — are hosting an Art Benefit Concert on Tuesday, December 19th. The concert will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Remedy City Church, which is a five minute drive away from Sunset High School (16260 NW Bronson Rd, Beaverton, OR 97006). The entry fee is $7, with tickets available online here and at the door depending on remaining capacity.
The Student Ambassadors are donating all proceeds from the event to Blanchet House, a free café in downtown Portland that provides shelter and addiction recovery programs for residents. The nonprofit’s mission is to provide free help and resources to anyone and all struggling with hunger, isolation, poverty, addiction, mental illness, or lack of housing. The shelter provides three meals a day, clothing, medical aid, hygiene products, etc. to anyone in need.
The benefit concert will feature various local performers, including dancers from Portland Dance Center, singers, and instrumentalists. The set list has not yet been finalized, so if any Sunset students are interested in performing, they should sign up using this form! The deadline for submissions is December 10th.
In addition to performances, the venue will house a gallery with art pieces available for purchase, and an array of baked goods and refreshments for sale. Proceeds from these sales will also go directly to Blanchet House.
Local artists have already begun generously donating their pieces, including Sunset ceramics teacher Mr. Burton! Students interested in donating one of their own artworks, whether it be prints, ceramics, paintings, etc., should visit the same form linked above. These art pieces will be available for viewing and purchase before and after the show, as well as during the half-hour intermission between the first and second acts of performances.
Entry is available to anyone, not just students or residents of the Sunset area. By attending, you not only immerse yourself in art and watch incredible performances, but you support a worthy cause and become a part of the effort to help those in need in Portland. Bring your friends and family to enjoy this night of art and community!
