Hi!

We, Mathilda Fyreskär and Amelie Hörnfeldt, are the so-called “Tekniksprångare” that have been around here at SVT for the last 4 months. You have probably seen us walking around in the hallway, thinking about who we are or what we are doing here. The short answer is that we are two fortunate high school graduates who had the opportunity to do an internship here at SVT through the initiative called “Tekniksprånget” taken by IVA (The royal science academy).

The fundamental idea of the internship is to give young people who have completed either the technology or the science program in high school, the possibility to enter “the real” working life. As a trainee, you then discover the different roles an engineer could have and get insight into what their everyday life looks like. By doing so, the aim is to attract more young people to study engineering after the internship. The internships are provided by over 200 companies all over Sweden with different specializations, which you choose among and then apply for in the hope to get employed at your favorite company. We both applied for several internships but happily accepted the offer from SVT for different reasons: Mathilda mainly because of her interest in digital media and Amelie since she was unsure of what to study, along with the urge to explore different topics within technology.

We have been able to follow developers, UX designers, art directors, analysts, and product owners, and tried out everything from working with mob programming and creating games to data analysis and 3D, etc.

Before our internship, none of us had greater insight into the different job roles that exist within digital development, and also no particular experience in programming or other similar subjects. However, that being said, we can now a few months later definitely say that we have a more broad knowledge of digital development. Perhaps not to the extent that we are perfect developers, ready to create a service- but unlike before, we now understand the competencies and elements that would be part of such a process. We have been given insight into working occupations we earlier didn’t even know existed and among them, we both have caught interest in the role of a UX designer. Time and time again we have also been amazed by all the interesting processes and the underlying work that is behind SVT’s products and services, for example, all the work with video compression that is needed for publishing at SVT Play.

During our time here at SVT, we have collected very much experience and learned so much, but have also come to know plenty of lovely people working here. These are things we

definitely will make sure to bring with us further into life. It feels great to have gained insight into how SVT works and the importance of the daily work going on here. The agile working method, the team structures, and the value streams here at SVT have also been really inspiring to take part in.

A huge thank you for giving us this opportunity to be a part of SVT, getting to know all the inspiring and wise employees, and especially thanks for all the coffee breaks with cake! ;)

Best regards,

Amelie Hörnfeldt & Mathilda Fyreskär
