In this case, the event unveils a smart device, specifically a smartwatch, that helps users monitor critical factors at night to help them understand how they sleep. The Galaxy Watch6 has specialized technological and software engineering features like apps that perform different monitoring functions to assist users with the stated objective. This is a YouTube video, and it is designed as an advert to market and increase awareness of the Samsung smartwatch (Samsung, 2023). The environment that is portrayed in the video depicts a man visiting his bedroom after a seemingly long day and getting on the bed to sleep. He switches off the light after looking at his Galaxy Watch6, and the narration begins then follows some graphics to support the advert’s theme, emphasizing the importance of how the next day begins. Samsung has a history of producing smart devices to suit different sets of customers, and it regularly updates them to include new developments.

Some of the most outstanding features of Galaxy Watch6 include the ability to track sleep, period, and mobile payments through the Samsung Wallet, voice assistant, and many others. The device has specialized sensors and sizing options that fit the preferences of different users. The simplicity in the software buildup of the device is outstanding and is a result of the company’s response to customer feedback that requested an upgrade of the old model (Samsung, 2023).

Stakeholders

The stakeholders that could use this product include people across all age groups, but the younger generation is mainly attracted to technology (Samsung, 2023). However, based on the critical factors that the smartwatch tracks, people with different medical conditions would find it attractive and effective since it would help track and monitor key health factors like heart rates and exercises they are recommended to participate in (Rastogi & Nygard, 2019). It could also help them monitor their blood pressure, among other things. The population that could get angry using the product includes the tech-savvy groups who would complain about the minimal improvements that are insignificant to the price increase.

Relation to Concept from INCOSE SE Handbook

The video has different concepts that relate to the INCOSE SE Handbook. For instance, it describes the fundamental processes that system engineers and other engineering professionals perform in the lifecycle of a system. In this case, the watch’s design, as depicted in the video, suggests how the system engineers engaged in system thinking and specifically designed a product that could automatically monitor, record, and analyze activities for people to track the results (INCOSE, 2015). Another concept is the diverse thinking that produces creativity among system engineers. In this regard, the system designers or engineers creatively incorporated a marketing message encouraging users to obtain the smartwatch because it could help them start the next day better. The smartwatch is designed with sensors that have been specially modified to perform these functions within the smartwatch.

Utilization of SE Principles

A careful analysis of the SE process in the video shows how the process utilizes SE principles. For instance, the design incorporates the Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) principle. This concerns developing a simple application with a simple frontend and backend code that fosters collaboration and simplicity. It also gives users a chance to understand the codes used, granting them success when using the applications in the smartwatch (Pang, 2022). In this regard, the smartwatch is advertised or marketed, while it is the ability of the different specially designed applications that enable these functions to be performed effectively. It also helps visualize different aspects of the applications by the SE and the effects of any change by possessing knowledge of states, dependencies, and other related factors (Rastogi & Nygard, 2019). Finally, improving the performance of the KISS principle requires strict avoidance of dead code, lasagna architecture, dependency abstractions, and flaunting.
