Lenape Regional High School District to now offer five books in ‘One Book, One School’ initiative
Officials with The Lenape Regional High School District (LRHSD) say the district will take its “One Book, One School” initiative in a new direction for the 2018–19 school year.
Instead of selecting one book for the entire school community to read, the district committee members selected five books for participants to choose from. These five books all fall under a common theme of “Windows & Mirrors.”
Participants may select from among these five books:
- “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr
- “The Running Dream” by Wendelin Van Draanen
- “Michael Vey, the Prisoner of Cell 25” by Richard Paul Evans
- “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio
- “Turtles All the Way Down” by John Green
Annual Kiki Open Scholarship Golf Tournament fundraiser returns July 24

A group of dedicated volunteers is once again teeing up an opportunity for locals to enjoy a fun-filled day of golf while also supporting the students of the Lenape Regional High School District.
The Konstantinos Scholarship Foundation has announced the 26th Annual Kiki Open Scholarship Tournament, set to take place on July 24 at the Medford Lakes Country Club.
The yearly golf tournament raises money to fund scholarships for students across the district in memory of former, longtime superintendent Kereazis “Kiki” Konstantinos, who served as superintendent for the district for three decades, from 1963 through 1993.
Pinelands Garden Club awards yearly scholarship
The Pinelands Garden Club is a nonprofit that was started in 1971 and has been growing ever since. The club was started by women in the area with a common goal of figuring out how to make plants grow in the Pinelands.
This year’s scholarship will be awarded to Sara Mayer, a senior at Shawnee High School, who will be attending the University of Maryland, College Park in the fall. She will be majoring in animal science and is interested in biotechnology, agriculture and toxicology.
She has completed more than 575 hours of volunteer service at Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, Medford Animal Hospital and St. Mary of the Lakes Church. She holds a weighted GPA of 5.51 and is active in Shawnee’s organizations, being a member of the National Honor Society, Animal Welfare Club, Biology Club and Culinary Club.
Mayer will be honored at a luncheon event on June 11, where she will receive the $1,000 scholarship.
