We’re bathed in overwhelming amounts of information against our will. And for those into spirituality, it’s even worse.

There are hundreds of traditions each offering a unique package. Floods of articles just like this one, each claiming to have some essential insight.

How on earth can you ever choose what process to follow – in a way deep enough to replicate the insights for yourself?

You risk an entire lifetime wasted by what I call “spiritual distraction.”

I mentioned this to a psychic Indian yogi-astrologer I met.

He said that for my distracted state, it was better to follow ‘empirical laws’ – the concrete rules for inner growth found in all traditions.

Because sticking to one process also has risks. Going Guru-shopping and settling on one could mean choosing someone you later abandon (and thus break vows toward).

The advice was to develop direct perception and experience, not shackle yourself to one lineage and tradition.

And in terms of metaphysical laws, one stood out as the most direct and powerful.
