Twitter geoblocks tweets in India over violent video circulation

Twitter has limited 50 tweets in India identified with a viral video of an old Muslim man being attacked in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. This activity comes after cops sent a notification to bring Twitter India’s chief last week to give an assertion.

The Ghaziabad police power had documented a grievance against Twitter, writers Mohammed Zubair and Rana Ayyub, and online media element The Wire for supposedly making public strain through tweets. Those tweets had a video of an older Muslim man being attacked in the city.

In a proclamation, Twitter said that it has conformed to a lawful solicitation and alluded to its substance limitation strategy:

“As explained in our Country Withheld Policy, it may be necessary to withhold access to certain content in response to a valid legal demand or when the content has been found to violate local law(s). The withholdings are limited to the specific jurisdiction/country where the content is determined to be illegal. We notify the account holder directly so they’re aware that we’ve received a legal order about the account by sending a message to the email address associated with the account(s), if available. The legal requests that we receive are detailed in the biannual Twitter Transparency Report, and requests to withhold content are published on Lumen.”

India’s IT Minister, RS Prasad, condemned Twitter to keep going for neglecting to consent with India’s new online media policing rules on time and not making any move on tweets identified with the UP occurrence.

Twitter has been in a steady fight with the public authority for some time, particularly when it comes to restricting tweets and applying deception names.
