Introducing the First Rechargeable Batteries Made from Recycled Materials by Energizer

Back in 2015, when Energizer debut EcoAdvanced batteries, the company’s first disposable battery made of 4 percent recycled material. An immediate question was raised about when the rechargeable version would come. And as of today, they are here. The company is launching Energizer Recharge, batteries that are not only made with 4 percent recycled battery material, but also give consumers long lasting powers that you can recharge hundreds of times, reducing the harmful impact on the planet.

“Energizer Recharge is another step forward in our vision that all Energizer batteries contain some amount of recycled battery materials,” said Michelle Atkinson, Energizer Chief Consumer Officer. “Our scientists partnered with rechargeable suppliers to build on the knowledge and experience from Energizer EcoAdvanced and identified a process to use recycled content in our rechargeable batteries without sacrificing performance, an idea previously not thought possible by industry experts.

Albeit EcoAdvanced and Energizer Recharge are both made of recycled material, their materials are obtained from different sources. The recycled materials for EcoAdvanced come from household batteries, whereas batteries of Energizer Recharge are made from batteries powering cars that use both electric and gas.

Energizer rechargeable batteries have always been a good choice for consumers looking to save resources and prevent waste. Energizer Recharge not only reduces the amount of batteries consumers need to use but also requires less mining of virgin materials in the manufacturing process.

“Consumers have expanded their definition of battery performance to more than just long lasting. They also want a responsible product,” said Atkinson. “Energizer Recharge is the latest example of how we innovate with the consumer in-mind, building on our breakthrough Energizer EcoAdvanced battery.”

Well, the truth is, you aren’t actually saving the earth while picking a battery for your remote control or an old toy, and the amount that is used as the recycled material is still a long way from Energizer’s goal of using 40 percent of recycled material by 2025. However, this is just the beginning and currently the most eco-friendly option for all of us.
