People change all the time, so do their minds. It’s quite normal the cringeworthy username you used to consider cool while you were a teenager doesn’t seem so cool now. Twitch can understand your change and now lets you change your username. Besides, given that your mind can change again, it will let you do it once every two months.

HOW TO GET A NEW TWITCH USERNAME

The name changing process is pretty simple. Just hit your Twitch Profile Settings and you’ll found a new ‘Edit’ option beside your username.

“Once you’ve changed your name, the abandoned username will be held by Twitch for a minimum of six months,” writes Emily Halpin from Twitch in an official blog post. “After which, we may decide to return it to the pool of available usernames for the community and new users. We will not recycle partner usernames, except in special circumstances.”

After changing the username, some users will lose access to their streamer stats. Halpin suggests you export your stats ahead of time to sidestep that. Any direct request to take a name from another account, even if it’s inactive, will not be accepted.

Well, not everyone wants to change their username, so it’s definitely not a change that needs to be done. However, giving at least an option could make some users more interested in Twitch. The feature is on now and you can change your username if you want.
