No More Online Trolls as Skype Hides Your IP Address

When it comes to online gaming, winning a multiplayer game just doesn’t bring you fame but also enemies. Some losers are left so crazy that they’ll go out of their way to force you offline. To do this, they can use some tools to locate your IP address from just your Skype username and then just by launching a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack to overload your internet connection. However, the good news is, Microsoft is finally hiding users IP address by default, a feature that the company initially allowed its users to choose.

According to Microsoft, the measure will “help prevent individuals from obtaining a Skype ID and resolving to an IP address.” It’s an important change that will not only protect the gamers, but also streamers and other Skype users who can be the target of online trolls.

Gamers used third-party workarounds to protect themselves before Microsoft enabled the feature. Skype was primarily peer-to-peer software when the company acquired it in 2011. Despite being slow, this response will hopefully let the players play their games without any hassle and fear of reprisals. You will find this updated feature in the latest version of Skype for desktop and mobile apps.
