No More PlayStation TV in Japan

The news has created quite a buzz. The PlayStation TV (PSTV), a more limited console version of the PlayStation Vita, is not going to continue in Japan. Sony, the PlayStation’s official manufacturer, says that their shipments have reached completion. The company has updated the PSTV’s Japanese Product Page to say that it has stopped shipping the mini console.

For further query, we tried to reach out to the spokesperson of the company. But to our surprise, Sony is not responding to this news. It is not looking good when Sony itself isn’t making Vita titles.

The device was originally released in Japan in November 2013 and then came to the United States in October of 2014 but didn’t make much of an impact, with a number of retailers dropping the console’s listed price of $99.99 to as low as $39.99 shortly after release.

The PSTV was compatible with a number of games in the PlayStation Vita library and did not come with a Netflix streaming app though the Vita had it.

You might already know that the device has long come across as an awkward compromise. It can only play some Vita games, downloadable PS1 titles and Remote Play, and it’s hard to justify it as a media hub when other set-tops in its price range are better-suited to the job.

As Sony is trying its level best to improve its capital in the market, the PSTV seems like a logical candidate for the chopping block.
