Facebook and other social media outlets are consumed by vast majority of the UK population. It is reported that 59% of UK population have active social media accounts. The social media sites are directing significant amount of traffic to all news media. It is reported that Facebook/Twitter refers atleast 40% of the traffic to News and Media Websites.

These brands have also established news and advertising publishing platforms.

Facebook -Instant Articles:It allows news publishers to post stories directly into its mobile app rather than having to link back to their own websites. Facebook has also teamed up with major publishers including Guardian and Daily Mail who are publishing their contents on Instant Article platform. Facebook says that they will give 100% of the advertising revenues to the publishers directly. If the publisher needs more advertising than Facebook can insert their own ads and take 30% of the sale revenue.

Apple — News: In June 2015, Apple announced the launch of Apple News app for iPhone and iPad. The Sun has already partnered with Apple to serve their contents on Apple News. Apple uses iAds platform for advertising. The commercial model is similar to facebook i.e publishers keep 100% revenue from self generated ads and 70% from the Apple served ads

GoogleAccelerated Mobile Pages: It promises to give more autonomy to publishers and focus on user experience. It allows publishers to retain their choice of ad networks, as well as any formats that do not detract from the user experience

The list is rapidly growing, Twitter has announced “Moment”, Snapchat “discover” is also popular with young consumers.

So look at this

  1. Social Media Platforms enable you to publish contents — Well we all know that
  2. They allow you to publish ads and give you 100% revenue for your ads
  3. Analytics
  4. Targeted Ads
