Brilliant Minds: Breakthrough the Winds
This revolutionary invention could change how we predict weather patterns and setting pre-cautionary measures to places with extreme weather. It could change the world of meteorology and inspire the next generation to create beneficial inventions for the sake of the world.
The Multi-Purpose Interconnected Transceiver Apparatus (MITs) is a device that assesses real-time weather and atmospheric conditions such as temperature, humidity, heat index, altitude, and air. It also has a Global Positioning System (GPS) that locates a specific place, object, or person to find out what weather that thing and the area around it is experiencing at the moment.
The inventors; McSteven Melicor, Christian James Fantonial, and Elram Espra from Philippine Science High School-Central Visayas Campus, invented this marvelous device as an opportunity to change the world and achieve success. Melicor said then that, “Why not apply our research into an innovation?” And that is exactly what they did. They spend 5 months preparing and building the MITs with the assistance of their professor, Prof. Benito A. Baje.
As our country faces the Pacific Ocean, we are bound to experience multiple typhoons throughout the year. After what happened recently, the provinces of Luzon have been devastated by typhoons thrice successively. The island of Catanduanes is an example of how these natural disasters make humanity kneel down before its power. After Typhoon Rolly and Typhoon Ulysses, the island has lost its electrical supply and cellphone reception. Not only that, but majority of the houses near the coast have been destroyed by strong wind and storm surges, the central municipalities have also been flooded by the strong downpour of rainwater. Provinces that were struck by the immense power of the typhoons are slowly recovering from the collateral damage.
That is why the MITs have been highly appreciated because it gives us signs to predict weather patterns and atmospheric conditions at a specific place at a specific time. It can help us Filipinos in our personal and collective preparation for typhoons and other extreme weather conditions. It has also gained the interest of many people around the world. If they were to sell this invention, it will surely give them a fortune.
This is an inspiration to many people just as Fantonial said, “I hope that other young students would like to think more and observe their surroundings more. To begin the path to science, one has to become more curious as the more curious they are, the more they will have the desire to pursue answers and create. Just like what we did. We learned from careful observations, self-study and asking the right questions.”
Just as the world is going to crumble, they saved the day and brought hope to those in need of it. In the near future, many more will follow in their footsteps and continue to invent machines for the world to be a better place.
