Chemistry 3 students visit plants, laboratories in Region 10
Traveling toward the eastern side of Mindanao, students from Chemistry 3 Core and Elective of Philippine Science High School-Caraga Region Campus (PSHS-CRC) went to various places in Northern Mindanao (Region 10) to be immersed in industrial plants and university laboratories last January 25–26.
A total of 81 participants from PSHS-CRC were included in the field trip, specifically 74 students from Grades 11 and 12 and seven adults consisting of science subject teachers, engineers, and drivers.
On the first day of the field trip itinerary, students were divided into two groups to simultaneously tour the Pilipinas Kao, Inc. (PKI) plant and the Filinvest Development Corporation (FDC) Misamis Power Plant in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, respectively.
The participants then toured the Gardenia Bakeries Phils., Inc. plant in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental where each student received a complimentary bread from the bakery.
After spending the night at the UCCP Guest House in Cagayan de Oro City, the party proceeded to travel further to the east for its first agendum at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), where they toured the Premier Research Institute of Science and Mathematics (PRISM) and Chemistry Department of MSU-IIT.
Lastly, the participants traveled to another MSU campus at Naawan, Misamis Oriental. Being a center of development in Marine Biology, the students were immersed in the projects and laboratories of MSU-Naawan, particularly in its Sea Cucumber Hatchery and high-end computational and molecular simulation servers.
The party safely returned to Butuan City around 11:00 P.M. to culminate the first-ever PSHS-CRC Chemistry 3 field trip.
