In collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Science High School — Caraga Region Campus (PSHS-CRC) conducted an in-campus vaccination program on Friday.

The program, which operated from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., accommodated minors and adults in the PSHS-CRC Academic Building 1 and Campus Gymnasium, respectively. First and second doses were available for both groups, while only the latter recipients, specifically aged 18 and above, were eligible for booster shots.

In an interview, DOH Nurse Vaccinator Rosemylene E. Rebusora reported a total of 10 administered doses of Pfizer vaccine for minors aged 5–11.

Meanwhile, the data for vaccinated and boosted adults were not disclosed.

Rebusora also discussed the specifics of the vaccinations and boosters in terms of the required number of doses to open per vial and the respective amount of milliliters per dose that are different for minors and adults.

She said that Pfizer is the general vaccine brand given to 5–11-year-old kids.

“In one vial, we need to have 10 kids per that, with 0.2 mL [per dose].”

“…If they [adults] choose to get Moderna as their booster it’s 0.5 mL [per dose]. If they choose Pfizer as their booster, it will be 0.3 mL [per dose],” Rebusora added.

Furthermore, regarding the lesser number of administered boosters shots, Rebusora said that such doses are “kind of optional.”

“Booster right now, it’s not being really pushed so much… If they really want to get it, it’s up to the individual to get boosted or to get the booster dose.”

“If we would like to maximize or increase the number of that, we have to do more when it comes to really making value of the booster dose,” she added.

Rebusora likewise clarified the unavailability of booster doses for minors as there is no confirmation yet from the national government.

Meanwhile, in an interview, a fully vaccinated and boosted PSHS-CRC Grade-7 parent, Berlindo B. Bouquia, shared details pertaining to his participation in the immunity program with his 6-year-old daughter.

“Naa man koy contact nila Loredy (school nurse), akong gipangutana ug pwede pa ba. Katung naa, gipa-register nako siya online sa Pisay nga site [I had the contact information of Loredy (school nurse), so I inquired if it was still open. There were still slots, so I registered her through Pisay’s website online.]”

“Kay pareho ra gud na atong bata pa ta, mga anak bata pa magpa-vaccine, okay man… Karon libre sa gobyerno, i-take advantage na karon, kaysa mo bayad naka. Mao nang okay ang vaccine [Just like when we were still children, young kids when vaccinated, it was okay… While it is still given free by the government, it must be used for advantage, rather than paying for it in the long run. That is why the vaccine is okay],” Bouquia added.
