Reselling thrift store finds has become a profitable cottage industry requiring minimal up front investment. It can be a great side gig or a full time business.

It is deceptively simple. Shop at the thrift store of your choice, find some things you are confident will sell on line for significantly more. Sell, ship and pocket the difference.

It isn’t really quite that easy but that’s the basic idea. The nice thing is you can do a little or a lot.

If you are thinking about dipping a toe in the water, this is how you can test it out:

You need a computer (nearly optional), smart phone or digital camera, postal scale, access to the internet and a basic understanding of how those work. Today’s selling platforms are easier and more intuitive than ever. On the technology side it’s mostly about learning your way around a few web sites.

The best way to start is to list some stuff you have around the house that no longer serve you. As Marie Kondo suggests in her book, the life-changing magic of tidying up, if an item no longer sparks joy let it go. Let them spark joy in someone else’s home. When you let a personal item go you get to get to keep the memories.

Chances are you have plenty of things around the house you would be happy to turn back into cash.
