Do you love scrubbing the toilet?

I didn’t think so.

I hated my weekly accountability group. I might as well have written Toilet scrubbing day on my calendar — because that’s what it felt like to look forward to yet another guilt-laden session of “No, I didn’t write every day this week.”

But what if there was a gamified approach to accountability? Imagine being part of a writing guild that’s working together to complete challenges, unlock levels, and earn tokens. Imagine participating in a double-elimination tournament where your team’s ranking will be negatively affected if you miss a day.

This is my vision for Koala Quill — the app that forces you to write.

The premise is simple. If you write for at least five minutes, you get promoted. Miss one day, and you’ll be demoted. Maintaining a perfect streak will help your guild collect gems, which allow writers to take a break without penalty.

Guilds will naturally become filled with givers (who earn gems) and takers (who use them). The game has been designed to push givers to start exclusive guilds with stringent admission requirements. If you want to join an elite guild, you’ll need to convince the leader you’ll become a worthy addition to their team.

All your stats are public, so it’s impossible to lie.

Koala Quill takes the idea of accountability and turns it into a fun and engaging game. Instead of feeling guilty for not meeting your goals, you’ll be excited to see how far you can progress. You’ll begin as a lowly peasant, and each day presents a new opportunity to advance to a new level — but only if you keep writing.

If you’re tired of feeling guilty for not writing enough, or if you just want to connect with other writers, give Koala Quill a try. I hope you’ll find the inspiration you’ve been looking for.

A huge thank-you to The Accidental Monster and Jake FM for serving as my focus group, providing invaluable feedback, and even writing rave reviews for this little project of mine!
