Hiding

A Story-Poem

An old man
hides his thoughts
from his children.
They would confine him
to the looney bin
if they knew
what he is planning.
They do not understand
the pain he feels
or the darkness
that fills his heart.
He hides his feelings
from everyone
he encounters on
the morning walks
through town. Only God
has heard his prayers
and plans to welcome
him to heaven
when the time is right.
