In 2015, as per family tradition the Gehricke family would travel to Wilhelmshof, Germany to their friends’ home for a visit. The visit was going well as the kids played with their friends' children and everyone was having a pleasant time.

On the second of May around six pm the families decided to have a bbq and while the parents got everything ready the children were sent to the forest around 100 metres away from the house to collect firewood. Around 40 minutes later the children returned however one of them was missing, it was the five-year-old Inga.

When questioned about her whereabouts the children explained she had split from the group about ten minutes before them and was walking towards their garden so they were certain she had been coming back to their parents. The area was considered very safe so the parents were confident she would return soon and continued making the bbq.

Around 7:40, Iga was still not back despite the families efforts to call her back, the police were quickly informed of her disappearance and search efforts were started immediately.

The search area was enormous, around 3500 hectares (35 square kilometres) of forest which was searched over the next few days with the help of a thousand volunteers. The police used…
