MetaMask is one of the best mobile/browser wallets out there but sometimes it leaves you scratching your head for a second. Like, why does it automatically add your Ethereum NFT’s but not your Polygon NFT’s?

I’m sure they are working on it, but in the meanwhile let’s add them ourselves because who doesn’t want to see their NFT’s in their wallet?

1. First things first, did we really mint the NFT?

In order to add the NFT, we need to know whether we actually minted the NFT, duh!

We will do that in 2 steps:

  • Search for our wallet on a blockchain explorer (fancy word for a website that shows what’s happening on the blockchain)
  • Search our transactions for the NFT in question

Assuming you came here from truehandle.com, we will use the polygonscan blockchain explorer as our smart contracts are deployed to the Polygon blockchain.

a. Search for our wallet

polygonscan blockchain explorer

A small warning before we start:

⚠️ Blockchain explorers are connected to the blockchain and do NOT need to connect to your wallet to operate. If your wallet asks you to sign a message or transaction to continue, do NOT accept and close the tab immediately.

Great, now that that’s out of the way, let’s begin.

  • If you have not already, open polygonscan in a new tab.
  • Copy/paste your wallet address from MetaMask into the search bar at the top and hit enter!

This will open a new page where you can see all the transactions, balance and tokens connected to your address on the blockchain.

b. Search for our mint transaction

ERC-1155 Token Txns tab

With the wallet in front of us we can see all the transactions coming in and going out of the wallet. What we are interested in are the Token transactions and more specifically the transaction of token named “Truehandle Mint Pass” with symbol “TRUEHANDLEMINTPASS”.

Let’s do that:

  • Select the ERC-1155 Token Txns tab. This will show the transactions related to tokens of type ERC-1155.
  • In the right most column search for the most recent transaction for token named “Truehandle Mint Pass”.

If the transaction does not appear, fear not, it can take a few minutes before appearing so check again later. If you found it then congrats (!!) you are the proud owner of the NFT 🎉

Now, let’s gather the information necessary to add it to MetaMask!

2. Get the NFT information

With the transaction found, we can gather the information that MetaMask requires to add it manually:

  • The ID of the NFT
  • The address of the contract that created it

a. Get the ID of the NFT

This one is simple, it’s written in the transaction under the “Token ID” column. Take a note of it.

b. Get the contract address

For the contract address we can press on the name of the token in the far most right column. This will open the overview page of the token, the contract address is on the right side in purple. Easy peasy.

With this, it’s time to add it!

3. Import the NFT into MetaMask

Note: At the moment of writing NFTs can only be viewed inside the MetaMask mobile app and not in the browser extension so you will have to do that there.

Almost there, we only need to enter the information we got previously:

  • Open your MetaMask app and select the wallet that minted the NFT
  • In the wallet press on “Import NFTs” button
  • Fill in the information:
    * Address: The contract address previously found with leading “0x” so it should look something like “0xe94Ee…”
    * ID: The Token ID we noted previously.
  • Hit the “IMPORT” button!
  • Pull to refresh if necessary
  • And voila, your NFT is now displayed in your wallet! 🎉🎉
