Day 186 (July 24, 2017)
In today’s issue: Keeping up with Kushner
Looks like the apple-in-law doesn’t fall far from the tree.
President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and White House adviser Jared Kushner has has a busy Monday. Ahead of his testimony before Congress this week about the Trump administration’s ties to the Russian government during the 2016 campaign, he’s:
- Released an 11-page written statement outlining four previously undisclosed meetings with Russians.
- Faced closed-door questioning from the Senate Intelligence Committee
- Gave a brief statement to the media after the closed-door questioning
Here’s what we’ve learned today:
Kushner blames his assistant for the fact that he hadn’t disclosed over 100 meetings with foreign officials on his security clearance form.
He admits to meeting with Russians. But believes his “actions were proper.”
He said: “I’ve not sought the spotlight.” Which is quiet paradoxical given the situation. And his marriage to a Trump. And that he was on Gossip Girl.
He claims — not under oath — that he did not collude with the Russians.
But don’t believe the false narrative that he took the meeting without really knowing what it was about.
He thinks he’s been fully transparent. So he’s not only a liar. He’s a delusional liar.
So, to summarize, here are the main takeaways (h/t USA Today):
Someone revoke his security clearance. ASAP. There should be no second chances. A screw up, at this level, is not to be forgiven. Fool me once, shame on you Kushner.
