Day 188 (July 26, 2017)
In today’s issue: Sessions, and the trans ban.
Trump is bullying Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation because as a top adviser to the Trump campaign, he could never be objective or unbiased in supervising an FBI investigation into that same campaign’s possible collusion with the Russian government.
And Trump is pissed. Because this led to Robert Mueller’s takeover as special counsel for the Russia probe.
So, he’s bullying Sessions. Intimidating him. Hinting at the fact that he wants to fire the Attorney General. But isn’t firing him. He’s just making it extremely uncomfortable.
He’s putting him on blast every chance he gets.
And this public humiliation and undermining as an alternative to firing is coming from a guy who has basically made “you’re fired” his catch phrase!
His entire way of going about this is completely ridiculous — instituting a new normal for how to address concerns with a member of his administration.
Why so scared to fire Sessions, Trump? Probably because Sessions has major GOP support. And firing him wouldn’t be such a good look.
So his tactic is to make him look like a bad attorney general, weaken his base, and justify the imminent firing.
In reality, this is making Trump look petty, and even worse, threatened. By Sessions — or by the investigation.
And people are catching on.
So it’s distraction time according to the POTUS playbook. When Trump is under fire for his questionable actions — what does he do? He does something even more questionable, but something that fires up his supporters (how does he still have any???)
So if you haven’t heard, Trump announced a ban today on transgender people serving in the military.
Yes. Trump today took us back in time when people were ignorant and is now banning transgender people from serving in the military.
WHAT. THE. HELL.
It’s outrageous. Absolutely outrageous. Plain discrimination on a public scale. What kind of example does this set for people throughout this country who encounter transgender people and folks who identify with the LGBT community at-large? What kind of message is this? What kind of leadership is this?
And when questions were posed today to get more information from the press secretary, Sarah Sanders, she threatened to shut down the briefing!
The only thing we really learned — and we’re still trying to figure out if he’s serious — is that Trump is now having the press secretary start briefings *sometimes* with fan mail.
Today has been too much to handle. To the entire LGBT community, we stand by you and wish our “commander-in-chief” would too.
