Unfortunately, this week we discuss Gary Cohn much more than we talk about Timothée Chalamet. This seems unfair to me, but whatever.

There’s a lot of news to go through this week — and every week. So, to get through all of it, we’ve put together a Weekly Roundup to help fill you in on all the news and analysis that you need for the week.

Although I am still reeling over the unjust Academy overlooking both Timothée Chalamet’s beautiful performance in Call Me By Your Name AND Greta Gerwig’s iconic directorial debut Lady Bird, I have pulled myself together to highlight all the news you might have missed! After all, who could blame you? There was a lot to pay attention to this week: Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water (wrongly) won Best Picture at the Oscars, Stormy Daniels is suing Donald Trump, and the President is (probably) going to meet with Kim Jong Un. Everything is fine! Here’s what you should know (did you hear that Walmart and Amazon are battling over low-income shoppers?) and what to look for in the week to come.

TL;DR: Gary Cohn’s last straw was the tariffs and next week Russia goes to the polls!

Something Smells Fishy (It was the Oscars): If you missed the Oscars, catch up with this Award Show Talk to hear all the winners and learn about what an inclusion rider is (thanks, Frances McDormand! Glad you got your Oscar back). I, meanwhile, am moving to an alternate universe in which Lady Bird and Timothée Chalamet won everything.

In this alternate universe, Tiffany Haddish and Rashida Jones are also my best friends.

Everything Is Bigger In Texas (Even The Primaries): Texas headed to the polls this week as one of the first primaries of the year. If you missed the results — or want to see which primaries you should be paying attention to — we can help you study for the midterms.

Sam WYD?: Former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg announced on Monday that he would not be cooperating with a subpoena from the Special Counsel. Sam then decided to call everyone(!!!) for legal advice on Monday, including Katy Tur, Jake Tapper, Ari Melber, and Erin Burnett, for an extremely bizarre but also kind of riveting afternoon. This debacle was only marginally wilder than the time Anthony Scaramucci called Ryan Lizza and called out Reince Preibus and Steve Bannon. In spite of all his talk on cable news, as of Friday, it looks like Sam has decided to cooperate.

Sam Nunberg calling major news network to talk about the subpoena from the Special Counsel.

Goodbye Gary Cohn: The day after the Nunberg mess, White House chief economic advisor Gary Cohn resigned (what a week!) over the President’s decision to instate steel and aluminum tariffs. This came less than a week after Hope Hicks’ resignation as White House Communications Director.

Jeff Is Suing: The Justice Department is suing California (can you do that?) over its sanctuary laws following controversy over Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf’s warned the public about immigration sweeps in the city.

Women To Read: Thursday, March 8, was International Women’s Day! In honor of the holiday, we put together a collection of some of our favorite women writers and journalists including Erin Ryan, Jia Tolentino, and Maggie Haberman.

Get Ready For Next Week

Pennsylvania Decides: Pennsylvania’s 18th District Special Election is on Tuesday and voters are deciding who should fill the seat left open after the resignation of Republican Representative Tim Murphy. Currently, the Democrat running (Conor Lamb) is leading by four points.

I fully intend to celebrate by eating an entire pie by myself.

Down For Some Apple Pi: Pi Day and Einstein’s Birthday are both next Wednesday. Celebrate by baking some pi(es) and memorizing pi’s first 10,000 digits. Unfortunately, no matter what you do, you probably aren’t taking this holiday as seriously as Princeton, NJ.

Putin Is Up For Election (Kind of): Russia’s Presidential Election takes place next Sunday. Putin is expected to win, but many are keeping an eye on turnout as a measure of the legitimacy of the election.

Things You Should Have Listened To But Probably Didn’t: The Outline World Dispatch, which refers to artist and fallen angel Sufjan Stevens as a “handsome, fragile, gap-toothed prince.” Hard agree. Or this episode, about Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot.

This week’s episode of Keep It, which explains inclusion riders and explains all the worthwhile Oscar drama, and episode of Here To Make Friends, which reflects on the absolutely bonkers finale of The Bachelor, to help you prepare for SXSW!

And Finally…

Same, Miranda. Same.

Daylight Savings Time, WYD?: Finally, Daylight Savings Time is back and I’m still confused about it. Don’t forget to set your clocks forward on Monday (don’t worry, your phone probably does it for you).
