We have received great news from commissioner Adam Silver a couple of weeks ago; about teaming up with NBA 2k to create an eLeague for next year’s game. Like myself and others, most people were excited about the news because we play this game competitively on a daily basis. There are some people out there that don’t believe it can last long compared to games like Call of Duty, League of Legends, and even Counter Strike. It’s very important that both parties get this right from the start because this will be the first official eSports league operated by a U.S. professional sports league and they need fans to really get behind this. I have a few ideas as to how this partnership can work.

NBA 2k Must Fix the Servers

Let’s get the biggest issue out of the way now. Anyone who owns this year’s NBA 2k17 on either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One knows this is the main reason we dislike the game. No matter what game modes we play, between MyPark or Pro-Am, players are lagging out or getting booted from games. During the All-Star qualifying tournament, players on different teams had to face these issues and it cost them the opportunity to qualify for the tournament. They must stop being cheap with all the money they gain from consumers and spend it on having great servers because most multiplayer games aren’t as frequent with this issue like 2k.

The Draft

This is a 30-team draft of five players on each team. They have yet to give us any details on how they would proceed to select players. I assume that the people who constantly play MyPark won’t be considered for a five versus five game style. Next, each team should hire someone to scout the Pro-Am games, player’s stats, and Archetypes they need to fill their roster. For example, a playmaker to handle the ball and set other guys up or a sharpshooter that can shoot from anywhere on the court just to name a few. Don’t just draft famous people on YouTube and twitch. They already have the fame and the notoriety just from playing your game each year. Plus, most of them only play MyPark. For casual fans to get behind this, you really must do some digging for people that’s under the radar in the NBA 2k community.

Broadcast for the World to See

Finally, this is a life changing opportunity for people. Being selected by a team means you’ll be earning a salary playing an 82-game season and playoffs like the real league. Also, teams will get to travel and play in different arenas at times. You are basically getting a real NBA experience. Most people have dreams of being in the NBA but couldn’t fulfill it, but now they can by playing a game they enjoy competitively. With the NBA having so many sources of different broadcast networks, they can form a show during live games and document individuals on teams on how much of an impact this eLeague changed their lives. If you didn’t make it in the NBA because you are short, got injured, or a woman here’s your chance to still live the dream.
