Things haven’t gone well for San Antonio FC this season, and things have been rough for Monterey Bay F.C. over the past couple of months. However, both are still very much in the hunt for a playoff spot, which will be the focus of the September 7th match at Cardinale Stadium. In the spirit of continuing to cross enemy lines, we linked up with The San Antonio FC Fan Cast to get some intel about this matchup as part of our coverage for this highly anticipated faceoff.
After spending the past several years as one of the most dominant teams in all of USL Championship (including becoming the 2022 champions), the club has fallen on harder times this season, putting together a combined record of 6–7–12 (1–2–9 on the road). They hold 25 points, which is a notch below the 28 of 10th place Monterey Bay and ninth place Orange County. FC Tulsa and Phoenix Rising currently have 30 points each and are in the final two playoff spots, but such a lead is tenuous at best with the final quarter of the regular season still to be played.
