During Monterey Bay F.C.’s inaugural season in 2022, the club brought in a mix of young prospects and wily veterans to build their first squad. One of the former was seasoned pro Hunter Gorskie, who spent half a season in Seaside to finish out his decade-long playing career. An important part of the team’s history, he is still involved in the game but has also moved on to new and surprising things.

Gorskie was born in 1991 in New York City. Growing up in New Jersey, he became a soccer prodigy, starring for Marlboro High School. He moved on to Stanford University, where he captained the team as both a junior and senior, and was known for his tough, smart play and ability to initiate attacks as a defender.

After graduating, he went undrafted by MLS but did land on trial with the San Jose Earthquakes and appeared in a couple of matches for their reserve league squad before joining the New York Cosmos of NASL. He also played overseas in Poland.
