The United Soccer League (USL) has experienced impressive growth in the past 15 years. In 2025, they are currently composed of the second (Championship), third (League One) tiers of professional soccer in the United States, in addition to League Two and their two women’s leagues. Much more is on the horizon for the organization, and there’s currenlty a lot going on — both on the pitch and behind the scenes. Kicking off USL Confidential, we dive in with an anonymous player agent (Agent X) to draw back the curtain a bit to see what representation and negotiation looks like.

Fans of USL are witnessing a transformative era for American soccer. The USL Championship is now in its 15th season, and eighth under Division II sanctioning. The recent revelation of their historic adoption of a promotion and relegation system intended to start in 2028 would make it the first professional sports…
