A gifted actor can breathe life into just about any story, and David Hewlett is an exemplar of this talent. Known for his role as Dr. Rodney McKay in Stargate Atlantis, Hewlett has also appeared in a couple of episodes of Murdoch Mysteries, a popular Canadian detective drama set in the late 1800s— early 1900s. At first glance, these two TV series may seem worlds apart, both figuratively and literally, but in fact, there are several striking similarities between the Stargate Atlantis episode “The Shrine” and the Murdoch Mysteries episode “The Accident.”

David Hewlett is a Canadian actor with a long and successful career. He is perhaps best known for his role as Dr. Rodney McKay in Stargate Atlantis, where he played a brilliant, socially awkward, and prickly scientist. Over many episodes, Hewlett transformed the obnoxiously arrogant Rodney McKay into a still obnoxiously arrogant, yet lovable character.
