In light of a tough 5-1 aggregate loss to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, Lionel Messi took to Instagram to release his feelings in between the two legs.

“F***ed up day but you have to get up and go. This is just starting”

Let’s look far too deeply into his post. It deserves levels of analyzing that even I can’t provide. The type of matchup that Messi and Barcelona had against Real Madrid was brutal. They were completely dominated by Los Blancos, and in the process Neymar’s absence was made more obvious then initially expected. Messi had to figure out a way to express frustration, motivation, and patience in a single post. But was it Trumpain and rushed? Or was it calm and calculated?

First section: “F***ed up day”

The colorful language is likely inserted to let the Barcelona faithful know he understands and empathizes with their frustration. The mood at the Camp Nou was an odd one against Real. With each Gerard Deulofeu mishap and Luis Suarez throwing of the arms, fans and players alike were aware of the precarious Barcelona situation. They’re still incredibly talented, and yet it felt like they were undermanned at a level unseen in the Camp Nou for quite some time. Messi could think of only one was to describe the game: “F**ked up day”.

He wasn’t too worried about the language either it seems. There is no doubt that Messi has some sort of media people working for him. I highly doubt he has a Trump level of reactionary social media posts in him. This was likely well thought out, which leaves me dumbfounded as to why foul language would be involved. Children around the world look up to Messi at a roll model!

I’m kidding. Sports players aren’t supposed to be kids roll models. I wouldn’t have used the language if I was his media guy, but Messi gonna Messi.

Second section: “but you have to get up and go.”

Now Messi is building towards something. You can sense that while he is frustrated at the team’s performance, along with the lack of transfer progress, he isn’t going to sit idly by and watching his team start the season in anything less than excellent form. There isn’t pouting in Messi’s world, he realizes the situation Barcelona are in currently. But he won’t wallow in the frustrating nature of past performances.

Third section: “This is just starting”

The crescendo of his post has come to this moment. The peak of his post that encapsulated the motivation that Messi was pushing the second half of the post. I just imagine Hans Zimmer music playing while I read this post over and over again.

His post is a call to Barcelona fans around the globe that things are indeed just beginning. The team is still figuring out what their tactics look like in a post-Neymar world. Be patient, be expectant, and be aware that the season is indeed just beginning.
