Last week’s Fortnite Friday was a bit strange, the overall feel was interesting and the final results weren’t what most would expect. Most of the big names were knocked out much earlier than expected and it just felt different. This week’s Fortnite Friday is more evenly split throughout the bracket and should bring with it some of the good matchups we appreciate.

The teams this week are a mix of existing teams who’ve been together for weeks, see SypherPK and NickMercs. But also that cool interchange of players that makes Fortnite Friday unique. Teams like OpTic CouRage and Faze Cizzorz are new as well as Ninja and c9Hysteria.

The first round matchups are something I struggle with in Fortnite Friday. The rounds are often stacked towards matchups we want to see as opposed to legitimately putting the best teams against more of the weaker teams. It’s probably due to the flukiness of the tournament style, you want the best matchups in the only place they’re actually guaranteed, in the first round.

That said, there are four first round matchups I’m looking forward too.

  1. Myth and Hamlinz vs. Daequan and CaMiLLS. The TSM teams facing off against itself is an interesting twist. Both have made runs towards the finals, but as usual with tough first round matchups it sucks to see one of these teams immediately go down to the loser’s bracket.
  2. Axvry and High Distortion vs. Nick Eh 30 and ONE_shot_Gurl. For whatever reason any team Axvry is on makes it incredibly far in this tournament. High Distortion is one of the most exciting Fortnite players and I’m excited to finally see him in the tournament. They should be one of the favorites and certainly an underdog.
  3. OpTic CouRage and FaZe Cizzorz vs. Ninja and c9Hysteria. CouRage and Cizzorz are the underdogs in this matchup, but are more than capable of going off in a round or two. Ninja has had bad luck in this tournament and despite usually dominating in the early rounds, could see that bad luck translate to yet another week.
  4. FaZe TFUE and FaZe Cloakzy vs. NickMercs and SypherPK. This is exciting for a multitude of reasons. Cloak and TFUE underperformed last week and are certainly looking for a much better showing, but are facing another duo in Mercs and PK that haven’t been performing that well since their week 1 win.
NickMercs

Overall, the usual suspects are the favorites. The TSM teams and then FaZe are guaranteed to be in the mix. But this week, I think that Axvry and High Distortion are the favorites in my mind. I don’t see them going out early because Axvry seems incapable of losing early on for some reason, and High Distortion is ready for the spotlight.
