Three Mistakes You Can Never Make In Your Fantasy Football Draft
It’s late-August, and that means football season is creeping up on us. For many, the best part of the NFL season is playing Fantasy Football with their friends. But for every Fantasy Football wizard, there is always that one person who comes in last place every year. And nobody wants to be that person. Here are a few things that you can absolutely NOT do if you want to win your league this year.
Drafting Backup Defenses and Kickers
This theme is going to be a reoccurring one- the importance of defenses and kickers is always minimal- they don’t provide much value, and you only need one of them. When they have their BYE week, you can just pick up a replacement for one week. Fantasy football roster spots are sacred, so don’t ever waste any.
Drafting Based On Bias
Fantasy Football is clearly built on fandom- there’s no feeling like rooting for one of your players, and watching them score a long touchdown. However, don’t let it change the way you draft. Always draft the best players. Don’t pass on LeVeon Bell and Antonio Brown because you hate the Pittsburgh Steelers. Don’t draft Andrew Luck, Frank Gore, TY Hilton, Donte Moncrief, and Jack Doyle because you love the Indianapolis Colts. Having your real-life fandom intertwined with your fantasy team is okay, but don’t go overboard in either direction.
Drafting Defenses and Kickers Early
Again- defenses and kickers are NOT IMPORTANT. No matter who you draft, your defense and kicker will be the two least valuable picks you make. So, please, wait until the end of the draft to take them. Fill out the rest of your bench first, get all of your backups, and then you can get your defense and your kicker.
