The Burden We Bear in Our Hearts
A poem
I have perfected the art of concealing emotion,
No, it is not something you can learn,
It is a constituent of pain, given as a companion,
To rob you of the bliss for which you yearn.
Pain is a burden I have learned to bear;
Hurting inside, yet smiling so bright,
Shrouded in my deepest despair,
With the hope that one day, I will see the light.
Yoked by the emotions buried deeply within me,
Twisted, bruised, and frayed by it all,
Every variation vying to obscure the visions in me,
My victory song is “It’s Within My Thrall".
I bear the pain, so I control it.
The pain was so familiar yet so patronizing.
It overshadows me, but I own it.
I harbored it for years, My pain, My burden, yet; so terrorizing.
