Established in 2022, ‘The Untamed Beast’, is an innovative, reliably sourced, neutral news platform dedicated to both the environment and wildlife conservation. This aims to be a trusted website that is accessible to all and promotes accurate newsworthy stories on a plethora of topics encompassing the natural world, including the latest scientific research, politics, economics, health, education, leisure, and much more.

I am a freelance writer and amateur photographer, who is fascinated by the natural world. My interest in wildlife conservation was reignited eleven years ago, after being woken up by a vixen fox and her cubs in the middle of night. That night was the beginning of an adventure I have never looked back from, and soon after I began to volunteer with local wildlife charities, including the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Caring for God’s Acre and Shropshire Bat Group.

I knew at a very young age that I wanted to become a writer. My very first venture into publishing began when I had two of my poems published in a local anthology. I have been writing professionally since 2015. My work has been published in an array of publications and websites both nationally and locally, including The Huffington Post, CountryLiving, Countryfile.com, BBC Wildlife and Shropshire magazine.

In 2019, I studied for a degree in wildlife conservation and ecology at the University of Chester. This further cemented my interest in wildlife and journalism, and I undertook work experience at BBC Wildlife magazine. At the time I was a member of a youth organization called, A Focus for Nature, where I received mentoring advice from the gardening journalist and author, Kate Bradbury and wildlife photographer, Nicholas Upton. This experience enabled me to further enhance my knowledge of nature writing and multimedia journalism so that I could publish my work in a wide range of news outlets and engage with wider audiences.

Having been an advocate for several disability charities, including Mencap and Scope, and using my own personal experience of having a disability and the difficulties I have faced accessing nature reserves and wildlife conservation projects, I developed a campaign called, ‘All for Nature & Nature for All’, which involved undertaking access audits and working with wildlife conservation charities like the Shropshire Wildlife Trust and Natural England on the March Mosses Boglife Project.

Currently, I am studying part-time online for a NCTJ Level 5- Diploma in Journalism with the ADJ Academy, whilst working as a freelance writer. My hope after completing my studies is to pursue a career in investigative or data journalism with an emphasis on both environmental and ecological stories.

When I am not freelance writing, I enjoy going horse riding, reading, creative writing, volunteering and meeting with friends.

I set up this blog, ‘The Untamed Beast’, as a news platform which is dedicated to discussing ecological and environmental issues in an opened minded way and exploring nature from all angles through data, videos, photography and interviews. So, whether you are new to nature, or interested in the latest science, this website is for you!
