Cultural groups from Saint Louis University (SLU), the University of the Cordilleras (UC), the University of Baguio (UB), and the University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB) participated in a sporting event, SLUPUBUC 2024, at UP Baguio on May 19.

In its fifth year, UPB’s socio-cultural group, Paggawisan Tako Am-In (PAGTA), hosted the sports event that had been previously held by the other three participating universities.

The ad hoc committee for SLUPUBUC, as well as the members of PAGTA, felt excited about this event because, after the long hiatus, we were given the privilege to host the SLUPUBUC Friendly Games 2024,” said PAGTA Vice President for Internals Jan Roxanne Galupe.

The cultural groups present at the event were the Cordillera Cultural Urnos Ya Tawid Incorporated (CCUTI), the University of Baguio Bibak Ubbun Kaafuan (UBBUK), and the University of the Cordilleras Saeng Ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble.

“We strived to give the participants an experience that would make them happy, and we also aimed to strengthen the bond between the different cultural groups of the universities involved,” Galupe added.

SLUPUBUC 2024 featured a series of parlor games, including a sack race, tug-of-war, bahay bata bagyo, and Pinoy Henyo. Different teams also competed in men’s and women’s basketball matches.

For the first time, Mr. and Ms. SLUPUBUC 2024 was also held as one of the segments of the event, where representatives from UPB and UB were hailed as Ms. SLUPUBUC, with another UPB representative earning the title of Mr. SLUPUBUC.

The event also had an intermission where the cultural groups united and were given the chance to perform a community dance.

Through its celebration of sports and culture, SLUPUBUC 2024 provided a platform for fostering connections between different cultural groups from Baguio-based universities.
