Week 1: Chillin at my mama’s in the snow

My van is used to warmer climes.

I had every intention of going off to some wild party for New Year’s Eve, but then I remembered I’m 40, so the pressure’s off for those kind of shenanigans, and it started snowing, and I was still at my mom’s place from the holidays, so why rush to leave a house with central heating, running water, and a mom who seems to want to cook for me?

So I spent the first week of 2022 shoveling snow, prepping my van for departure, and helping my 14-year-old nephew welcome his new puppy into the family. At one point I turned to him and said, “You know you may have this little dog until you’re 30.”

His eyes widened in surprise and fear. Thirty is a million years away for that kid.

Time is so weird. Aging is weird. Life is weird.

Finally on the 7th I managed to load up the van and drive away. I had friends camping in a…
