Time is ticking towards the 14th annual Portsmouth News Guide Awards taking place at The New Theatre Royal.

The annual awards ceremony celebrates the success achieved by some of the most exciting creative talent in this area, from comedy performers to DJs and visual artists.

Among the nominees for ‘Best Solo Act’ is 17-year-old singer-songwriter Bella Xenopoulos, better known by her stage name, Bella Estelle, whose new single ‘Crazy in Love’ was released on Portsmouth-based record label Mayfield Records in November.

The track has since gained support from BBC Music Introducing and Express FM.

2018 proved to be something of a breakthrough year for Estelle. She appeared at Portsmouth’s Victorious festival on the Seaside Stage in August, as well as performing at numerous venues across the city throughout the year, consistently playing to audiences of over 500 people.

Along with ‘Crazy in Love’ Estelle’s debut single ‘Blurred Vision’, released in 2017, was also a success and both have been awarded BBC Introducing’s ‘track of the day’ title.

Estelle, from Bognor Regis, is producing music alongside her A-Level studies. As a young performer in the very early stages of her music career, she comes across as extraordinarily grounded and very appreciative of all the support she has received so far.

The iconic New Theatre Royal will be full of amazing talent on awards night.

She said: “I found out about my nomination a day after my 17th birthday which was a lovely surprise. I couldn’t wait to tell my band, friends and fans online. I am very grateful.

“Hopefully my music is enjoyed and allows me to keep doing what I love. I can’t wait to get more music out and see where it takes me!”

She has celebrated news of her nomination for the Guide Awards by releasing a lyric video to accompany ‘Crazy in Love’.

Estelle has revealed plans to release her next single ‘Heartbeat’ in January, which she hopes will enable her to continue building her career as a songwriter.

She, along with her supporting band, will make their first major appearance of 2019 at January’s Icebreaker festival in Portsmouth.

Voting for the News Guide Awards is open now, and winners will be announced at the ceremony on Monday 28th January 2019 and public voting for the awards closes on Sunday December 30th.
