The Three Lions haven’t been roaring during their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign

England fans gave a scathing assessment of an underwhelming performance against Slovenia last night (5 October).

A 1–0 victory secured the Three Lions’ qualification for the 2018 Russia World Cup, but they were blasted as boring.

Harry Kane got the winning goal in the 94th minute, giving the 61,598 supporters in attendance at Wembley something to cheer about.

Prior to that, disgruntled fans threw paper planes onto the pitch during the game to amuse themselves.

“I think the funniest bit was when someone actually scored a goal with a paper plane and it was the loudest cheer of the night,” said Max Bateman, 21, who was in the crowd.

“Nobody wants to pay money and go all the way to London to see average football when the players are meant to be the best.

“It was honestly nothing short of shocking.”

Meanwhile, football writer Phil McNulty summed up the mood on Twitter, saying: “England fans singing ‘It’s just like watching Brazil.’ Very good. For those not watching let me assure you it isn’t.”

Gareth Southgate’s men will next play historic rivals Germany on 10 November, before taking on Brazil four days later.
