Despite Donald Trump’s failed 2020 Presidential Election campaign, and the embarrassing manner in which he handled defeat, one result seems to have taken the world by surprise.

The 45th president of the United States secured more votes from Black Americans after four years in office than he did when he was elected back in 2016.

When comparing the exit polls from this year’s election with the exit polls from the 2016 election, the shift in voter behaviour has left pollsters scratching their heads.

From a sample of 15,285 respondents, the number of Black men who voted for Trump increased six percentage points from 13% to 19%.

Not only that, support for the Republicans from Black women also increased five percentage points from four to nine percent.

This is surprising considering just a few months ago the nation seemed united against the government, after the death of George Floyd sparked global outrage.

However, despite the anarchic Black Lives Matter protests that occurred towards the end of his time in office, Trump still managed to steal Black American votes from the Democrats.

This was likely down to a number of high-profile Black men publicly supporting Trump, helped along by blunders made by Joe Biden regarding race during his push for the presidency.

Trump also excelled amongst Hispanic voters, Asian voters and other ethnic minorities.

He gained an increase of four percentage points amongst Hispanic men and five percentage points amongst Hispanic women, although this was not enough to save his campaign.
