After the release of The Crown Season four on Netflix, the exuberant Emma Corrin received mixed reviews for her raw performance as Princess Diana.

The role of Diana is one synchronised with criticism and high expectations, all of which actress Corrin was fully aware of.

Born on 3 December 1995, Corrin discovered her passion for dance and acting whilst attending an all-girls boarding school in Surrey.

Amidst the Corrin charm — similar to that of Diana’s — the 24 year-old actress is extremely well educated after graduating from Cambridge University, with a degree in Education, English, Drama and the Arts.

Shock — horror … a brilliant, brainy and beautiful female in the public eye.

Sound familiar?

Corrin is relatively new to the acting industry; with one of her notable previous performances in Misbehaviour. A historical drama following a Women’s Liberation Movement seeking to disrupt a 1970s Miss World competition. She starred alongside big names such as; Keira Knightley, Keeley Hawes and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

However, her spectacle in The Crown as Lady Diana, is unforgettably her big breakout role.

Amongst the praise — like many high profile roles — Emma Corrin received some backlash of her portrayal as the late Princess of Wales.

Peter Morgan’s adaptation of the show unravels Diana’s story; her suffering with the mental and eating disorder Bulimia, as well as, the struggles she faced settling into the Royal lifestyle.

Corrin already told E! News that she found it daunting to play such a controversial role but she highlighted how the role is The Crown’s version of Diana.

“That really changed it for me. It doesn’t remove the pressure and the responsibility that I feel, but it made it more manageable to do the role.”

Aside from this, Corrin’s doe eyes and her exquisite bone structure are an uncanny resemblance to the late people’s Princess.

Corrin shared the story, with Interview Magazine, that her own mother stunned onlookers at a London café hours after Princess Diana’s death was announced.

Similarly to the memories of Princess Diana, we will have fond memories of Emma Corrin’s spectacular portrayal of the People’s Princess.

The Crown Season 5 will explore the 1990’s, following the final years of Diana’s life played by the actress Elizabeth Debicki.

Let’s hope for The Crown’s avid super-fans that Debicki’s performance is just as ‘alright’ as Corrin’s debut.

The Crown is available to stream on Netflix.
