Ex-Portsmouth footballer joins Barcelona team on loan
Former Portsmouth and Tottenham football player Kevin-Prince Boateng is joining Barcelona on loan from Italian team Sassuolo, with the possibility of a permanent move in the summer.
Boateng, 31, has travelled to Spain for the remainder of the season, with Barcelona having the option to permanently buy for £7.1m in the summer.
Tottenham fan Simon Ostler, 26, said: “The buy is a surprise, I did not expect it.
“During his spell at Tottenham, you wouldn’t have considered him to be a future Barcelona player.”
Portsmouth FC signed Boateng in 2009 on a three-year contract, but he left the team in 2010 for Genoa, for £4.9 million.
Pompey supporter Tim Edgley, 20, said: “I think it’s good move for him [Boateng], I don’t know how he’s pulled it off, and I don’t know if he’ll get to play that much.”
This is the footballer’s 10th transition in 12 years, as he becomes the first Ghanaian to play for Barcelona.
Boateng left Hertha Berlin in 2007, and has since played for Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund, Portsmouth, AC Milan, Schalke, Milan, Las Palmas, Eintracht Frankfurt, Sassuolo and now Barcelona.
The midfielder will sign the contract tomorrow (Tuesday), before the transfer deadline of January 31.
