Each year, university libraries are flooded with students desperately trying to reach their deadlines before the end of the academic year — especially third-year students in their final year hoping to get the best grades possible.

According to research from the Institute for Public Policy Research, five times as many students since 2009 have disclosed to their university tutors and supervisors that they have a mental health issue — and exams and deadlines are worsening their states.

Student Eleanor Sanmogan, 21, from the University of Portsmouth, explained how she is struggling with her deadlines being so close together and feels the stresses of meeting so many hand-in dates in such short timeframes.

“It’s been a bit of a struggle and it’s not great at the moment but I’m getting there,” she said.

There are many students who are nearing the end of their university experiences who will need extra help and may need someone other than their friends or family to speak too.

The mental health charity Mind has a free online and telephone service where people can go and talk to professionals if they feel they need help or want to talk about their issues and stresses.
