Published by The New York Times, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, shared the recent loss she and Harry experienced after having a miscarriage earlier this year.

Although the discussion of a ‘miscarriage’ has been deemed a taboo, in fact one in five pregnancies ends in a miscarriage. Meghan’s candid account has been broadly welcomed, especially by miscarriage charities.

Falling in love with a British Prince after they met on a blind date, Meghan Markle filled a role she least expected. Acting for over a decade, Markle was widely known her appearance in season seven of Suits, an American legal drama show.

Battling the press for two years up until their marriage in 2018, Meghan became a target of racial comments, being talked about as having “exotic DNA” and comparisons made toward the couples’ son to a “chimpanzee”.

A stark divide in reports covering public appearances made by Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle show a continuous ‘adoring’ slant toward Kate, while presenting Meghan in a ‘disgusted’ manner (Daily Mail, 2018, 2019); Kate, “Not long to go! Pregnant Kate tenderly cradles bump”, and Meghan, “Why can’t Meghan Markle keep her hands off her bump?”

In February 2019, a legal battle began between Meghan and the Mail on Sunday. She sued the tabloid for invasion of privacy and copyright infringement after private letters written to her estranged father were published.

The duchess’s lawyers stated that the letters were selectively edited by the Mail on Sunday in their publication. In May 2020 Meghan lost the first round of the legal case, but the hearing continues.

Queen Elizabeth II showed her support for the couple’s decision to step back from royal duties on March 31. A statement from the Queen said: “Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives.”

It continued: “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.”

The couple and their 10-month year old son now reside in LA. Meghan and Harry’s biography Finding Freedom, released in August, captures previously unknown details of the couple’s life together in the hope of disparaging ‘fake news’ — and shares how they built a relationship under the watchful eyes of the entire world.
