The National Trust has launched a campaign to help city-dwellers ‘Escape into Autumn’ — offering free tickets to hundreds of their properties.

At a time of “major pressure” on people’s finances, the conservation charity hopes the scheme will allow everyone to reconnect with nature.

Celia Richardson, Director of Communication and Audience Insight at the Trust, said: “Like organisations and individuals across the country, we are concerned by the rising cost of living.

“We want to honour our mission during this period — reminding people of the wonders of nature and supporting everyone to experience them.”

Hampshire boasts dozens of picturesque properties including an ancient water mill and a mansion overlooking the Downs.

Keira Ryan, a University of Portsmouth student, made the most of the campaign with a visit to Uppark House in Petersfield.

She said: “I think it’s important, especially for younger people, to be able to appreciate open spaces and learn about their local history.”

The Trust says that “nature connection and a sense of escape” is crucial for people’s wellbeing. They hope to offer that escapism both through free tickets and their social media campaign. Picture: Screenshot, National Trust Twitter.

Each pass entitles two adults and four children to a free visit. Once the pass is booked via the National Trust website, it can be redeemed at any point until 30th November.

The Trust are encouraging visitors to share their Autumn photos using the hashtag #EveryoneNeedsNature.
