The Climate Change Strike took place in Portsmouth’s Guildhall Square on Friday 29th November, as part of a global movement spearheaded by climate change activist, Greta Thunberg.

The event was put together by the local Extinction Rebellion group and was supported by other organisations such as Wilder Portsmouth and Let Pompey Breathe.

The cities climate strike was joined by a large number of pupils and students of various ages, with Portsmouth’s Priory School encouraging pupils to attend and fight the cause.

Local councillors including Labour’s Stephen Morgan and council leader Gerald Vernon-Jackson were in attendance, who both made speeches to show their support.

The event itself should be seen as a relative success due to the awareness raised on the issue in one of Portsmouth’s busiest areas.
