Portsmouth-rooted football star features in top 20 most valuable players in 2022 FIFA World Cup
A footballer who grew up in Portsmouth was in the top 20 most valuable players competing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, according to a recent dataset.
Mason Mount was reportedly the 20th most valuable player at the tournament, valued at €75 million, according to data published by Statista Research Department in November 2020.
The 23-year-old Chelsea attacking midfielder had a career total of 26 goals in 119 Premier League appearances prior to the tournament taking place.
Mount attended Purbrook Park Secondary School, and even held a season ticket at Fratton Park.
His love for Pompey hasn’t faded either, in a recent video shared on Twitter, Mount reiterates the team he supports is still the PO4 side, despite coming through the ranks at Chelsea.
Mount is behind fellow England teammates midfielder Declan Rice (€80 million), winger Bukayo Saka (€90 million), captain Harry Kane (€90 million), midfielder Jude Bellingham (€100 million) and attacker Phil Foden (€110 million).
Foden is third in the total rankings, valued €10 million lower than Real Madrid ace Vinicius Junior, who represented Brazil.
France and Paris St. Germain forward Kylian Mbappe leads the rankings with a total value of a whopping €160 million.
England have the most players in the top 20, with a total of six. There are three Spanish players, two of which play for Barcelona, while Brazil, France, Portugal and Germany all have two players.
Serbia, Belgium and Uruguay complete the list, each having a sole representative.
Real Madrid have the most footballers on the list, boasting four players; Aurelien Touchuameni, Vinicius Jr, Federico Valverde and Rodrygo. Mount is the only Chelsea representative on the list.
He featured in four of England’s five World Cup fixtures, including a substitute appearance against France, where he won England a second penalty, before they eventually lost the game 2–1.
