Portsmouth students encouraged to walk home in groups after several violent attacks in the past week

Social media posts urging students to ‘Stay safe’ have been sent around the university following a number of reported incidents in the early hours of the past week.

The attacks, which are thought to be unrelated, have been taking place throughout the week starting from around the early hours of 28th September, involving a student and a group of young boys.

The first social media post, send around by nightclub owner, Alistair Ritchie, informed the staff that there had already been multiple attacks on students around Sommerstown, and that any students heading that direction should stay safe.

Another post by popular Instagram account ‘@spottedpompey’ reported “Everyone be extra careful tonight, a gang of white males in a van and a car have just attempted to jump a kid by pure gym on commercial road”.

Facebook post on nightclubs ‘Mr Miyagis’ staff page warning staff to stay safe.

Archie Harrison, 20, a student of Portsmouth University and victim to being confronted by a group of young men in Sommers Town, was asked for his belongings and hit around the head with a belt knuckle, Archie added: “There really isn’t much that can be done. Students will always be vulnerable with poorer locals looking to take what they can get from us”.

There are still many reports of different attacks being posted, the university are urging their students to stay safe and stick together.
